Phosphate

The GEOSCAN-M analyser can be used to measure raw phosphate rock, beneficiated phosphate rock and the quality of the final products. Scantech, with its world class research facilities, is an acknowledged leader in the application of real time elemental and moisture analysis technologies. The GEOSCAN-M elemental analyser and TBM200 series microwave moisture monitor are used in process control in the production of phosphate fertilizers:
- phosphate rock is mined and either sold for direct application or sent to a plant for processing
- phosphoric acid is reacted with ammonia to produce MAP and DAP fertilizers
- phosphate rock is beneficiated to remove contaminants to acceptable levels phosphate rock is fed to an acid reactor to mix with sulphuric acid to generate phosphoric acid product and a phospho-gypsum tailings
The GEOSCAN-M is typically installed on the belt conveyors on mined phosphate rock, or between the storage silos and the acid reactor
The purpose of the analyser is to:
- measure the quality of the phosphate rock for stockpile allocation (bulk sorting)
- control the sulphuric acid addition to the acid reactor based on phosphate rock feed quality, eg. the P2O5 , CaO and moisture content.
- measure and control the quality of the phosphate rock (blending) in the beneficiation process: P2O5 and other elements contents, and also on the moisture content (the price paid for the received phosphate is based on the P2O5 and moisture content).
